I started my privacy journey six months ago. I’m not a tech person—I’m a teacher. If I can do this, so can you. This guide will get you started in 30 minutes.
The Mindset Shift
Privacy isn’t about having something to hide. It’s about:
- Not being a product
- Controlling your own data
- Basic digital hygiene
You lock your front door. This is the same thing, but digital.
The 30-Minute Setup
Step 1: SimpleX Chat (5 minutes)
- Download SimpleX from your app store
- Open it—no registration needed
- Done. You now have the most private messenger on the planet.
First action: Message one friend. Share your QR code. That’s it.
Step 2: Mullvad VPN (10 minutes)
- Go to mullvad.net
- Click “Generate account”—no email needed
- Write down your account number (this IS your account)
- Pay 5€ with card (or crypto later)
- Download the app, enter your number
First action: Turn it on and leave it on. Forget it exists.
Step 3: Cake Wallet (15 minutes)
- Download Cake Wallet
- Create a new Monero wallet
- WRITE DOWN YOUR SEED PHRASE ON PAPER
- Store that paper somewhere safe
First action: Don’t buy anything yet. Just have the wallet ready.
What You’ve Achieved
In 30 minutes, you now have:
- Private messaging that nobody can read
- Hidden IP address from every website you visit
- A crypto wallet ready for private payments
What’s Next?
Don’t rush. Use these tools for a month before adding more. Get comfortable.
When you’re ready:
- Replace Gmail with Proton Mail
- Replace Chrome with Tor Browser
- Start accepting/spending Monero

- Doing too much at once. Stick to these three tools first.
- Telling everyone. Privacy works best quietly.
- Perfectionism. Some privacy is infinitely better than none.
